Owners of Revive Wellness And Massage Spa, Cortney Spencer, and Chiffonia White, celebrated one year in business in March, just as Illinois began its lockdown against Covid-19. Despite the global pandemic, business is going great. We sat down with Courtney and Chiffonia to find out more.
Q: Why did you decide to launch a business?
A: Massage therapy is increasing in demand, and it takes a special connection between client and therapist. It’s hard to build that connection when you’re not in the right environment. It’s been a dream between the two of us to have our own business, and one day the opportunity presented itself.
Q: From where does the name of your business come?
A: Feeling revived is something we all strive for at some point. We offer more than massage therapy, so Revive Wellness And Massage Spa was born.
Q: What is your background/training?
A: Cortney attended USMT, and Chiffonia attended MTI. We both have studied the basics of massage therapy. We have expanded our knowledge of aromatherapy, sports massage, and myofascial release. Chiffonia is skilled in cupping therapy and prenatal massage. Our style of massage is very different because every massage therapist is different. Cortney loves to focus on anxiety and depression and helping her clients ease their stress.
Q: What treatments do you offer?
A: Eight massage modalities, including Swedish, deep tissue, and hot stone. Three detox services including infrared sauna wrap, ionic detox foot bath, and our full-service foot scrub bar.
Q: What makes your business unique?
A: We are a small business, but we have something for everyone when it comes to wellness. Helping our clients to achieve their goals and go beyond physical, self-care is so important; it is both physical and mental. We tailor our services to the needs of each client and expectations for their wellness journey.
Q: How have you adapted to changes in recent months?
A: We have always had above standard sanitation guidelines due to the field we are in and the clients we see daily. We work with immunocompromised clients and geriatric clients. We have always taken our time between clients to clean and sanitize. We stay up to date with what we have to do, including taking temperatures, asking questions, and wearing masks.
Q: What are your five-year aspirations for the business?
A: We are looking forward to expanding our business and bringing in more therapists. We would love to open a school to train, mentor, and share our knowledge of therapy and wellness.
Q: What do you love about Springfield?
A: Springfield is a small city, saturated with small family-owned businesses, and that is amazing. We pride ourselves in supporting local and shopping small we go out of the way to do so. There is a little bit of everything in Springfield, and we all know someone who knows someone.
